How to manually run OBS on Catalina (Mac OS 10.15)

Installation Instructions

Due to the new security prototols in MacOS, we have a separate installation guide for MacOS.  Please follow the directions on the Installation of OBS for MacOS help article.

Manual Workaround (Not Recommended)

Current OBS does not natively support Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina), however, there is a workaround before it’s supported:

  1. Open Terminal application (you can find it in the Spotlight Search)
  2. In the window that opens, paste in the following code, then press Enter:
    open /Applications/OBS.app/Contents/MacOS/OBS --args -picture
  3. Accept all security alerts to allow Terminal to access the cameras and write files to Finder.  They will pop up as you use OBS.
  4. Keep Terminal open while you run OBS
