Step-by-Step Guide: Li Quick Roll Maneuver for Horizontal Canalithiasis BPPV

The Li Quick Roll Maneuver is a repositioning technique designed to help treat horizontal canalithiasis BPPV by guiding displaced otoconia back into the utricle, reducing dizziness and improving balance. This maneuver is straightforward and can be performed at home to manage symptoms effectively.

Starting Position

  • Right Ear BPPV: Lie on your right side, keeping your head supported by a pillow and parallel to the floor.
  • Left Ear BPPV: Lie on your left side, keeping your head supported by a pillow and parallel to the floor.
  • Ensure you have enough space on your bed or mat table to roll completely onto your opposite side safely.

Steps 1 & 2 (Right Ear BPPV)

  1. Quickly roll over onto your back and then directly onto your left side, keeping your head at midline and supported on the pillow throughout the movement.
  2. Maintain this left side-lying position for 4 minutes.
  3. Keeping your head at midline, drop your legs off the side of the bed or mat table and slowly sit up.
  4. Once seated, wait for an additional 60 seconds before standing.
  5. Hold onto something sturdy as a precaution, as you may feel off-balance after the maneuver.
