SUMMARY:Journal Club: Diagnosing Acute Dizziness - Beyond Stroke and Acute Unilateral Vestibulopathy (January 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Join Co-Founder Dr. Helena Esmonde PT\, DPT\, NCS and special guest Dr. Alexander A. Tarnutzer\, MD as they discuss Diagnosing Acute Dizziness – Beyond Stroke and Acute Unilateral Vestibulopathy and answer viewer-submitted questions about this topic. \nAlexander Tarnutzer graduated from medical school at the University of Basel\, Switzerland in 2003. In 2004 he took a position as a research fellow in the vestibulo-ocular motor laboratory of Prof. D. Straumann in Zurich\, Switzerland\, and started his neurology residency at the University Hospital Zurich. In 2009 he joined the Vestibular/Eye Movement Testing Laboratory (Prof. D.S. Zee) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore\, USA as a postdoctoral research fellow for one year. He became a board-certified neurologist in 2012 and continued to work as a senior physician at the Zurich University Hospital and as a research fellow in Prof. Straumann’s laboratory. He received his habilitation in 2014 and in 2018 he was awarded the Ellermann prize of the Swiss Neurological Society. In the same year he took over a position a as senior leading physician and head of stroke unit at the Cantonal Hospital of Baden\, Switzerland. In 2021 he became a titular professor in Neurology at the University of Zurich\, awarding both his scientific career and his dedication to teaching neuro-otology to medical students\, medical professionals and the general audience. His main research interests include improving bedside diagnostic accuracy in acutely dizzy patients\, pattern recognition in vestibular disorders\, the diagnosis and management of vestibular deficits after traumatic brain injury and harmonizing ocular motor / vestibular testing in hereditary ataxia patients. \nRegister for the event to be entered into our monthly raffle to win a Vestibular Model and download the article we’ll be discussing below. \n\n\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n Register Here\n \n \n \n \n Download Article\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n \n	\n \n \n \n \n\n \n Guest\n Dr. Anita Bhandari \nTitle\nProposal of a standardized testing protocol for BPPV: Using 3D simulations for insights into movement of otoliths during positional tests \nAuthors\nBhandari R\, Bhandari A\, Zee DS\, Nuti D\, Kingma H\, van de Berg R. \nCitation\nBhandari R\, Bhandari A\, Zee DS\, Nuti D\, Kingma H\, van de Berg R.
