DESCRIPTION:Join Co-Founder Dr. Helena Esmonde PT\, DPT\, NCS and special guests Dr. DeJ’a Crippen\, PT\, DPT\, Dr. Madison Oak\, PT\, DPT\, and Dr. Danielle Tolman\, PT\, DPT as they discuss effective patient education strategies in vestibular conditions and answer viewer-submitted questions. \nDr. DeJ’a Crippen\, PT\, DPT  graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware and went on to obtain her Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia\, PA.  She is a licensed physical therapist with a focus and passion for evaluating and treating patients with balance and vestibular disorders as well as neuromuscular\, cardiovascular\, pulmonary\, post-covid\, general orthopedic\, geriatric\, and return-to-sport. In 2022\, she was awarded the APTA’s Minority Scholarship Award. \nDr. Madison Oak\, PT\, DPT graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from University of San Francisco. Dr. Oak is an experienced vestibular specialist. She has advanced training in vestibular diagnostics utilizing infrared video nystagmography to observe ocular movement to diagnose and treat vestibular pathology. She understands many people are improperly diagnosed and treated with vestibular conditions\, and she hopes to improve the lives of one patient at time by providing proper vestibular care to this underserved population. She is also the Founder of The Vertigo Doctor\, Vestibular Group Fit\, & Oak PT & Wellness \nDr. Danielle Tolman\, PT\, DPT specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients with vestibular and balance dysfunction. She obtained her bachelors in Healthcare Management as well as her doctorate of physical therapy from Misericordia University. A few short years later\, she developed the educational version of a 3D printed model of the Vestibular Organ for both patient and clinician education. As a Clinical Specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital\, she utilized her combined clinical specialties to build quality improvement initiatives and research projects which address the management of “dizzy” patients.   Now currently a Rehab Services Manager at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center\, Dr. Lammers has lead multiple quality improvement and operational enhancement initiatives leveraging lean healthcare models and six sigma training. DESCRIPTION:Join Co-Founder Dr. Helena Esmonde PT\, DPT\, NCS and special guests Dr. Melissa Castillo Bustamante and Dr. Jorge Madrigal Duval as they discuss issues surrounding quality of life in patients with vestibular disorders and answer viewer-submitted questions. \nDr. Castillo Bustamante is the current Medical Director of the Medellín Vertigo and Dizziness Center in Colombia. She is a specialist in Otorhinolaryngology\, a fellow in Otopathology at Harvard University\, and has training in Otoneurology in three countries. She is a member of the Barany Society\, Colombian Association of Otorhinolaryngology\, American Neurotology Society\, Ibero-American Foundation of Neurotology\, and Schuknecht Society. Dr. Castillo Bustamante is also a researcher and teacher in Colombia\, Chile and Paraguay\, and co-author of 37 international publications as well as the current research coordinator of the Vertigo and Dizziness Centers of CDMX\, Guadalajara and Medellín.  \nDr. Madrigal graduated from Anáhuac University and specialized in otorhinolaryngology at the Spanish Hospital in Mexico and continued his specialization in vestibular rehabilitation at the Center for Dizziness and Balance Disorders at Emory University in Atlanta\, GA. He is the first Mexican doctor to receive certification by the American Physical Therapy Association in vestibular rehabilitation. He has currently treated more than 6\,500 patients in the more than 10 years of experience he has in the area. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Wayne State University in Detroit\, Michigan\, in 1991. Mr. Gawenda previously worked as the Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Detroit Receiving Hospital where he was responsible for physical therapy\, occupational therapy\, and speech-language pathology services\, both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. \nHe has provided valuable education and consulting to hospitals\, private practices\, skilled nursing facilities\, and rehabilitation agencies in the areas of CPT coding\, ICD-10 coding\, billing\, documentation compliance\, revenue enhancement\, practice management\, and denial management as they relate to outpatient therapy services. Mr. Gawenda has presented nationally since 2004 and currently presents approximately 100 dates per year around the United States. \nMr. Gawenda is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and Michigan Physical Therapy Association (MPTA). He has been board certified in neurologic PT since 1995 and has been a private practice owner since 2005. Dr. Studer has been an invited speaker covering 50 states\, 10 countries\, and 4 continents\, speaking on topics such as cognition and psychology in rehabilitation\, aging\, stroke\, motor learning\, motivation in rehabilitation\, balance\, dizziness\, neuropathy\, and Parkinson’s disease. \nDr. Studer is a cofounder and co-owner of Spark Rehabilitation and Wellness in Bend\, Oregon. He is an adjunct professor at Touro University in Las Vegas and a part-time instructor at the University of Nevada\, Las Vegas. Mike has led classes in the DPT program at Oregon State University (motor control) and frequently serves as a guest lecturer in several other DPT and residency programs. \nMike was recognized as Clinician of the Year in the Neurologic Academy of the APTA in 2011 and in the Geriatric Academy in 2014. He received the highest honor available in PT in 2020\, being distinguished as a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the APTA\, joining a group of fewer than 300 persons at the time in the history of the profession. Mike’s professional honors additionally reflect his service at the state and national levels\, including service as the vice president of the Academy of Neurologic PT and receiving the Mercedes Weiss award for service to the Oregon chapter of the APTA.
