DESCRIPTION:Join Co-Founder Dr. Helena Esmonde PT\, DPT\, NCS and special guest Dr. Francisco Carlos Zuma e Mia\, MD\, PhD as they discuss the use of the Zuma Maneuver in lateral canal BPPV and answer viewer-submitted questions. \nDr. Zuma e Maia is a Neurotologist at Clinica Maia and a professor of Neurology at Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. He is also a member of the Barany Society\, Ibero-American Neurotology Foundation (FINO)\, Brazilian Academy of Military Medicine\, and the Research Group in Otology and Otoneurology at HCPA/CPPq. He received his medical degree from the School of Medicine and Surgery of Rio de Janeiro in 1973 specializing in Otorhinolaryngology and Otoneurology.  He is a retired medical Lieutenant Colonel\nin the Brazilian Air Force. DESCRIPTION:Join Co-Founder Dr. Helena Esmonde PT\, DPT\, NCS and special guests Dr. Melissa Castillo Bustamante and Dr. Jorge Madrigal Duval as they discuss issues surrounding quality of life in patients with vestibular disorders and answer viewer-submitted questions. \nDr. Castillo Bustamante is the current Medical Director of the Medellín Vertigo and Dizziness Center in Colombia. She is a specialist in Otorhinolaryngology\, a fellow in Otopathology at Harvard University\, and has training in Otoneurology in three countries. She is a member of the Barany Society\, Colombian Association of Otorhinolaryngology\, American Neurotology Society\, Ibero-American Foundation of Neurotology\, and Schuknecht Society. Dr. Castillo Bustamante is also a researcher and teacher in Colombia\, Chile and Paraguay\, and co-author of 37 international publications as well as the current research coordinator of the Vertigo and Dizziness Centers of CDMX\, Guadalajara and Medellín.  \nDr. Madrigal graduated from Anáhuac University and specialized in otorhinolaryngology at the Spanish Hospital in Mexico and continued his specialization in vestibular rehabilitation at the Center for Dizziness and Balance Disorders at Emory University in Atlanta\, GA. He is the first Mexican doctor to receive certification by the American Physical Therapy Association in vestibular rehabilitation. He has currently treated more than 6\,500 patients in the more than 10 years of experience he has in the area. DESCRIPTION:Join Co-Founder Dr. Helena Esmonde PT\, DPT\, NCS and special guest Rick Gawenda\, PT  as they discuss information related to billing considerations for vestibular care. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRick Gawenda\, PT\, is a licensed physical therapist with over 30 years of experience and currently serves as the founder and President of Gawenda Seminars & Consulting\, Inc. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Wayne State University in Detroit\, Michigan\, in 1991. Mr. Gawenda previously worked as the Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Detroit Receiving Hospital where he was responsible for physical therapy\, occupational therapy\, and speech-language pathology services\, both in the inpatient and outpatient setting. \nHe has provided valuable education and consulting to hospitals\, private practices\, skilled nursing facilities\, and rehabilitation agencies in the areas of CPT coding\, ICD-10 coding\, billing\, documentation compliance\, revenue enhancement\, practice management\, and denial management as they relate to outpatient therapy services. Mr. Gawenda has presented nationally since 2004 and currently presents approximately 100 dates per year around the United States. \nMr. Gawenda is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and Michigan Physical Therapy Association (MPTA). He has been board certified in neurologic PT since 1995 and has been a private practice owner since 2005. Dr. Studer has been an invited speaker covering 50 states\, 10 countries\, and 4 continents\, speaking on topics such as cognition and psychology in rehabilitation\, aging\, stroke\, motor learning\, motivation in rehabilitation\, balance\, dizziness\, neuropathy\, and Parkinson’s disease. \nDr. Studer is a cofounder and co-owner of Spark Rehabilitation and Wellness in Bend\, Oregon. He is an adjunct professor at Touro University in Las Vegas and a part-time instructor at the University of Nevada\, Las Vegas. Mike has led classes in the DPT program at Oregon State University (motor control) and frequently serves as a guest lecturer in several other DPT and residency programs. \nMike was recognized as Clinician of the Year in the Neurologic Academy of the APTA in 2011 and in the Geriatric Academy in 2014. He received the highest honor available in PT in 2020\, being distinguished as a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the APTA\, joining a group of fewer than 300 persons at the time in the history of the profession. Mike’s professional honors additionally reflect his service at the state and national levels\, including service as the vice president of the Academy of Neurologic PT and receiving the Mercedes Weiss award for service to the Oregon chapter of the APTA. He currently works as consultant at the ENT Department of AUSL – IRCCS in Reggio Emilia (Italy)\, where he is involved in medical and surgical activities. As head of the otoneurological outpatient clinic\, in collaboration with Neurology and Emergency Departments\, he is involved in research activities in the otoneurological field with other national and international Departments and Universities. He is guest-editor for special issues and collections\, reviewer and author of publications in national and international scientific journals. He is also speaker at national and international congresses and seminars. He is member of the Directive Board of VIS (Italian Society of Vestibular disease) and member of the Barany Society. \nDr. Salvatore Martellucci graduated in Medicine in 2009 and specialized in ORL-HNS in 2015 at the “Sapienza” University of Rome. At the same university\, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Implantable Auditory Prostheses in 2016 and a PhD in Advanced Technologies in Surgery in 2020. He also received the Postgraduate Specialization in Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders issued by the Italian Association of Sleep Medicine and the Italian Society of Otorhinolaryngology. He worked as a research assistant at the Department of Medico-Surgical Sciences and Biotechnologies and later at the Department of Sense Organs of the “Sapienza” University of Rome. He is currently working as consultant at the ENT Unit of “Santa Maria Goretti” Hospital in Latina (Italy)\, where he deals with functional and oncological surgery and is head of the neurotology outpatient clinic. He teaches at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and the Graduate School in ORL-HNS of the “Sapienza” University of Rome. Dr. Martellucci is a member of the Italian Society of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (SIOeCHCF)\, the Italian Society of Vestibology (VIS)\, and the Bárány Society. Carey\, MD as they discuss the topic of Third Window Syndromes and answer viewer-submitted questions. \nDr. John P. Carey\, MD specializes in the health and diseases of the inner ear that affect both balance and hearing mechanisms. He is a national expert in superior canal dehiscence syndrome\, Menière’s disease\, vestibular migraine\, acoustic neuromas and other causes of vertigo\, and serves as chief of the Division of Otology\, Neurotology and Skull Base Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. \nDr. Carey earned a medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and completed two years of training in general surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center. This was followed by residency training in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at University of Washington Medical Center and fellowship training in neurotology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. \nHis research interests include superior canal dehiscence syndrome\, Menière’s disease\, vestibular implants\, and the mechanisms of vestibular migraine. He has a particular interest in superior canal dehiscence syndrome\, and\, with Lloyd Minor\, department director from 2003 to 2009\,  he helped develop the operation used to repair the superior canal. Dr. Carey has been funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders\, part of the National Institutes of Health.
