SUMMARY:Why Goggles Are Essential And How They Became Accessible In Vestibular Care With Patrick Esmonde
DESCRIPTION:Vestibular nerds this one is for you! Even if you’re just a regular neuro nerd\, you’ll love this episode. Erin Gallardo interviews Patrick Esmonde of Vestibular First. Patrick shares the inspiring story behind the creation of Vestibular First and the company’s mission to develop affordable\, accessible tools to support clinicians in providing better vestibular care. \nSince necessity is the mother of invention\, Patrick details the process of building the first prototype of Vestibular First goggles in a single night\, leveraging his diverse technical skills and material purchased on Amazon. Goggles are essential in vestibular care for a number of reasons\, which Patrick discusses as well as how inaccessible they have been until Vestibular First came to be. In addition to having goggles\, educational tools that help clinicians explain to patients why they are experiencing dizziness and what is actually going on in their inner ear were lacking. Vestibular First has a strong desire for accuracy and accessibility in their education tools and realistic models so you don’t need to use your imagination to understand what is actually going on. \nThroughout the conversation\, Patrick’s passion for the vestibular community shines through. He speaks of the dedication and unique challenges faced by clinicians in this field\, and the immense satisfaction of knowing their work is helping patients regain their quality of life. Vestibular First’s story is a testament to the power of innovation driven by real-world needs. By prioritizing affordability\, ease of use\, and educational resources\, the company is making a significant impact in the vestibular rehabilitation space\, empowering clinicians and improving patient outcomes. You are sure to be inspired! \nLearn more about Vestibular First and all of their resources at https://vestibularfirst.com \nFollow them on IG @vestibularfirst \nGet in touch with Patrick on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/patrickesmonde/

SUMMARY:Journal Club - BPPV after Brain Injury (April 2025)
DESCRIPTION:Join Co-Founder Dr. Helena Esmonde PT\, DPT\, NCS and special guest Dr. Barry Seemungal\, MB\, BCh\, FRCP as they discuss the topic of BPPV After Brain Injury and answer viewer-submitted questions. \nDr. Seemungal is trained as a neurologist in London and completed a PhD in vestibular neurosciences at the Medical Research Council Human Movement & Balance Unit (UCL).  He has expertise in neurology\, vertigo\, balance\, eye movement disorders\, post-traumatic imbalance and dizziness\, migraine\, vestibular migraine\, Meniere’s disease\, vestibular neuritis\, and stroke. \nTwo key pieces of research from Dr Seemungal include a structural brain imaging study showing that the vestibular cerebellar grey matter may independently modulate vestibular perceptual and VOR \nresponses and that vertigo sensation is mediated by an extensive white matter cerebral cortical network; and a human lesion study (Kaski et al.\, Brain In Press; see US National Library of Medicine for review) which defines the cerebral cortical correlates of vestibular spatial orientation (https://www.imperial.nhs.uk/consultant-directory/barry-seemungal). \nRegister for the event to be entered into our monthly raffle to win a Vestibular Model and download the article we’ll be discussing below.

SUMMARY:Seeing the Unseen: How Vestibular Rehab Can Transform Your Recovery w/ Dr. Helena Esmonde (Vestibular First)
DESCRIPTION:Do you still feel dizzy\, off-balance\, or disoriented months—or even years—after your concussion? You’re not imagining it. In this episode\, Dr. Ayla Wolf sits down with Dr. Helena Esmonde\, founder of Vestibular First and creator of the innovative infrared goggles that are changing how clinicians diagnose and treat vestibular disorders. \nTogether\, they uncover what your eye movements can reveal about your inner-ear and brain connection\, why symptoms alone rarely tell the full story\, and how new diagnostic tools are helping patients finally understand why they’re dizzy—and what to do about it. \n💡 You’ll learn: \n\nThe difference between central vs. peripheral vestibular issues—and why it matters for treatment.\nHow infrared goggles reveal hidden patterns of nystagmus and help pinpoint the true cause of dizziness.\nWhy some patients develop “learned dizziness” even after their BPPV has resolved.\nPractical\, creative balance and sensory-integration exercises.\nHow to find a qualified vestibular therapist and what red flags to watch for when seeking help.\n\nWhether you’ve been told “everything looks normal” or you’ve just learned about vestibular rehab for the first time\, this conversation will give you hope\, clarity\, and practical next steps for your healing journey. \nVestibular First: website \nHelena Esmonde: LinkedIn\, email: helena@vestibularfirst.com \nInstagram: @vestibularfirst
